We're looking for an experienced and commercially-minded legal counsel to head up our legal team in South Korea. This is an exciting role for someone who wishes to join a well-funded and rapidly growing start-up. You will be our first legal hire here and will be responsible for day-to-day commercial affairs as well as all relevant regulatory matters. Responsibilities
- Negotiate, draft, and review a wide range of commercial contracts and partnership agreements with different counterparties
- Work closely with our compliance team to ensure that the company adheres to all laws and regulations
- Provide legal advice to the senior management on new strategic initiatives and product launches
- Establish best practices for the legal team as the company scales
- Look ahead for potential roadblocks and ensure that the company circumvents them
- Stay up-to-date on the latest legal and regulatory developments
What we're looking for
- At least 6 PQE and be qualified in South Korea
- Someone who has trained at a leading local or international law firm, and/or have prior experience as an in-house legal counsel
- Experience in the FinTech space, preferably advising on the relevant payments and fintech regulations
- A commercial mind that is able to identify and distil a variety of legal issues (regulatory, contract, data protection) and clearly communicate practical risk-based solutions to the business and product teams
- Ability to operate in the volatile environment that comes with start-ups
